The Bookshop Band write songs inspired by books and play them in bookshops. They started as a collaboration between a group of musicians in Bath and their local independent bookshop, Mr B's Emporium. Now they are about to go on tour, sponsored by Vintage Books and Independent Booksellers Week, around other bookshops and lit fests. Catch them if you can. Listened to this album driving home the night lockdown was announced so I wouldn't be alone at uni and it really uplifted me on the journey. Every time I listen to it now I'm reminded of how surreal the experience was and how everything was so scary and uncertain and I wasn't even going to be able to hug my mum for a couple of weeks when I got home, but something about this album just felt so optimistic and comforting. Leaves such a warm feeling despite reminding me of an uncertain time.

John Drumbo French from Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band worked with Thompson on two albums along with Fred Frith and Henry Kaiser. Those two French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson albums led me to this. Also, Richard Thompson taught Hugh Cornwell (of The Stranglers) how to play the bass guitar in a band when they were both at the same school (Emil and The Detectives?). With a career spanning 50 years and playing with two of my heroes (French and Cornwell) Thompson has produced a fascinating EP.
