A man remarries and his new jealous wife makes him chose between his daughter and her. With no choice, the man takes his daughter out into the frosty forest to perish. In the night an old man passes through and spies the young girl, shivering and on the edge of death. When he asks her if she is cold, the girl, not wanting to trouble the old man with her burdens, replies she is warm and fine. The old man is touched by her stoic nature and rewards her with a fur coat to keep warm and silver and gold aplenty. When the father eventually returns he is amazed to find his daughter safe, well and with newfound wealth. Upon returning home, the stepmother is equally amazed, yet jealous of the riches the girl has received. Now, the stepmother had a daughter of her own, whom she then sends out to the same spot, deep into the forest, in the hope of receiving the same bounty. Unfortunately for the girl, she was of a different nature, and when the old man passed by, she complained bitterly to him about the cold. The old man was offended by the second girl and froze her in an icy grave, for he was in fact Old Man Winter (Morozko).
lyrics
Child destined to an icy fate
Brave faced and proud
Stoic little girl now
Tell me are you warm
Tell me are you warm
On this winter floor
And the, child only knows to smile
And the, old man replied to her
And he cloaked her in winter fur
He clothed her in silver
And placed her, on a stool
Keeping her from the winter floor
Child with a jealous soul
Is placed in turn, on the winter floor
In a cold hope, of riches to return
And, Old Man Winter comes tell me
Child are you warm but
Child only knows to frown and
Cry and the old man replies
There’s no winter Fur
And there’s no silver
And there’s only, the icy ground
Keeping her, in winters arms.
The Bookshop Band write songs inspired by books and play them in bookshops. They started as a collaboration between a group
of musicians in Bath and their local independent bookshop, Mr B's Emporium. Now they are about to go on tour, sponsored by Vintage Books and Independent Booksellers Week, around other bookshops and lit fests. Catch them if you can. Details at www.thebookshopband.co.uk...more

There's a similarity in song writing between Richard Thompson and Hugh Cornwell which maybe isn't surprising as they went to the same school at the same time, although Thompson is older.
Due to Thompson's association with John French of Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band I searched for his work on the Bandcamp app. French, Thompson and Cornwell all have albums on the app which I'm very pleased about. Only Thompson has released contemporary albums, much to his credit. yellowcakeuf6

Such a broad range of roots music styles; trad English, modern Scottish, Americana.
The first track is fabulous, took me right back to teenage years listening to Fairport.
Hope it gets the recognition it deserves Derrick Turner
British folk musician Tom Nash built these delicate and moving songs around a broken harmonium, allowing its limitations to open up worlds. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 12, 2021
